That is correct. I'm a day drive from the sahara desert... is it that surprising?

And you don't have air conditioning, fans, swamp coolers, anything?!?

Yeah we have AC but it's like in Eretz. They're not central. So you can never cool the entire house down. Hallways are always hot. You walk out of a room and it's like walking into a hot blowdryer. I turn the AC on once the temps hit above 40°C. It's dry heat so you can deal with it up to a certain point. Once you're in the 40°Cs forget it. Death is upon you. AC or not, it's as if the air itself is burnt.

Most moroccans do not have AC though.
My parents and grandparents didn't have AC here when they were growing up. They'd hose down sheets and hang them on the windows and put babies' beds in tiled rooms and throw buckets of water on the floor to keep them cool... Now you know why the jews left morocco.

And why are you still there? Holding down the fort?

The other day I was in a cab in NYC, and the cabbie, originally from Morocco, but not Jewish, was telling me how it's a great place to live now, for $400k you could have a mansion.

He also told me that Spain has good real estate now, and that lots of Jews are cashing out their homes in NYC and moving to Argentina. Interesting fellow.

Oh if you're paid european wages then yeah life here is great. That's why we're here but we've always been clear that living here is temporary, just enough time to save up (something that would of been harder to do in Paris).
Marrakech is pricier then elsewhere in morocco. Casinos, luxury homes and hotels, lots of europeans.
Still it's cheaper then europe or the usa. You definitely would get a mansion for that price, something like this

Meanwhile, Israel has some of the highest real estate in the world.

Who would have thunk it?
